Customer & Sales Liaison for Gellert Nurseries Ltd,
Debbie Mountfort is the new Customer & Sales Liaison at Gellert Nurseries Ltd, making her the first port of contact for growers. She is a local, born in South Auckland and resides in Conifer Grove, rather handy to Gellert’s. The Horticulture Industry is quite new to Debbie; however, she is really enjoying the experience and the challenge. She has already learnt a great deal in a short space of time.
Working closely alongside Steve Gellert they have created a role to be more specific to what they think growers are looking for and will benefit from. Steve wants to ensure customer service continues to be prioritised and to know that requests will be noted and passed through the right channels, providing growers with high quality plants specifically grown to their likes. Debbie is six months into the role and has already built close working relationships with her customers. “For those that have met me already, you will know that I talk a lot (don’t think there is anything wrong with that) and have a good, witty sense of humour and am easy going, so take most things in my stride. I have also been known to make a nice cup of tea or coffee J”
Every week Debbie will walk the crops two or three times with the Gellert production staff and Steve Gellert. Taking photos to send to the customers especially when it is close to the time of delivery and scheduling deliveries. Debbie is not always based on site but will always arrange to meet growers at Gellert’s if they want to view their plants. The service does not stop there, Debbie contacts growers post-delivery for comment on the plants, she then will feed these observations back to the production team.
Debbie is constantly working on the Production Planner, this involves scheduling orders in the system for 2019. “This is a very important time because from now until the end of January we can blink and it’s that time for the big man in the red suit to visit, then New Years and then January.” Ensuring forward orders are booked in is an essential part of the job. Orders can always be ordered through Gellert’s office reception or via e-mail. Staff in the office will be able to advise on how many days it takes to grow your plants for the delivery date in the season you are ordering for.

Debbie previously worked at a function centre on the Orakei Basin, where she organised conferences, events and weddings from start to finish. Her latest work history has been in the construction industry working for Fletchers Construction, where she was Finance Administrator on the Auckland International Airport upgrade, then previous to that Fulton Hogan and GHD Engineering. At Fletchers Debbie was working on a live project. The coming and going of passengers had to be kept to a minimum of inconvenience with sound barriers in place and temporary walls. On the other side of the wall was a full-on construction zone.
Debbie is really enjoying her new job and is looking forward to meeting current and new growers in the future.
