Extra Special under COVID-19 Lockdown
This weekend is Mother’s Day. There is no better time to send flowers to brighten your Mums day and let her know you are thinking of her, it also supports greenhouse flower growers that are without doubt financially bleeding.
I have not seen my mum since level 4 began as she is in a retirement village. Still under level 3 it is impossible for us to visit. My mum suffers with loneliness, as well as other health issues, like so many other residents of her village. Living on their own in isolation has been simply dreadful for them. Luckily, thanks to modern technology, we have FaceTime so she can see her family and grandchildren most days.
All mum asked for Mother’s Day this year is a pot-plant. So, it was great to see our local florist Soul Flower, in Karaka shops, up and running selling a beautiful range of New Zealand grown flowers and pot plants. I see instore they have a great selection of Gellert Nurseries beautiful pot plant orchids amongst cut flowers supplied by many other local cut flower growers in the Auckland region.
Soul Flower, as well as other small florists, need to be congratulated for formulating a quick and contactless plan to re-open in level 3. They, like all flower growers, are trying to get their business up and running again and are extremely important distribution links for growers. We are all essential to one another, the chain involved is vast. The best thing at the end of the day is the smile it will put on Mum’s face even just for a moment during these uncertain times.
