Has your greenhouse been damaged during Cyclone Gabrielle?

Has your greenhouse been damaged during Cyclone Gabrielle?
Greenhouse Growers, please contact myself or your Horticulture NZ representitive if you require advice.

If your greenhouse has damaged by the high winds, slips or rain damage, please feel free to make contact. Damage reported so far has included flooding damage. If your property has been flooded or water has made contact with anything connected to your electricity supply – please be extremely careful.

If your crop has been submerged under water I suggest once the water recedes from your property, and the substrates have dried out sufficiently, it is a good idea to drench your root systems with an appropriate product.  Contact your local supplier for further advice.

For growers that have heating systems, if you are able, I would run the heating system to help dry the greenhouse out and reduce humidity.   Later this week the weather is forecast to improve so you will need to irrigate, amazingly it is still officially summertime.  If your substrate has been saturated or flooded, fertiliser will have been flushed out so continuing to intimately irrigate is necessary to replenish the plants.

Some greenhouses may only be partially affected. This is more difficult and may need some manual interventions and temporarily removing irrigation spikes from flooded areas, so you can continue to irrigate areas of the greenhouse that were not flooded.

Please feel free to make contact with me via phone or email for any information that may help your situation if you have been affected from this week’s event – free of charge.
