Summer Fieldays 2022
Find-A-Pest new app proving a winner.  New water storage option.

Thanks to Horticulture NZ and Tomatoes NZ for inviting me to work on the HortNZ stand at Fieldays this year. It was great chatting and meeting people whilst handing out the ‘Find-A-Pest’ fridge magnets.

Find-A-Pest is a new app that provides users with simple options to report potential insect and fungal pests of plants, pest weeds, and a range of other animal pests.

Find-A-Pest is your opportunity to participate in the Ko Tātou movement of all New Zealanders contributing to biosecurity. It’s an easy-to-use app, with observations made simply by clicking the camera button or via one of the factsheets. The factsheets highlight particular species that are of interest to the sectors that you have subscribed to in your profile.

When you make an observation, you will quickly get help from specialists at Find-A-Pest and via the iNaturalist NZ community. If your observation is considered to be a potential biosecurity threat then it may be forwarded to Biosecurity New Zealand who will, if necessary, contact you for more information if they feel it is necessary. Comments and identifications will appear directly in your activity page along with all of the observations you have logged to date.

Go to this website https://www.findapest.nz/ or use the QR code below to download the app to your device.

When I was not at the HortNZ stand It was great to catch up with Grower2Grower customers.

Anton and Jacky from Flexi Tanks used the show to promote their new solution to provide fixed water storage tanks options with Pioneer Water tanks – check out this link www.pioneerwatertanks.co.nz     This will give growers the best of both scenarios.  If you are looking for new storage options, then I highly recommend you contact the Flexi Tank team today.

It was great to catch up and talk with Paul Marlow from Educhem about the stand they had at Fieldays. Agrochemical training is vitally important for the protected cropping industry but also all agriculture. Paul is also involved with Aquasan International that distributes Huwasan a chlorine-free water treatment product for the horticulture industry, which has many benefits for the agriculture industry.

Peter Campbell CEO of Agdrone had one of his amazing drones on display.  Peter’s machines are now able to spray shading products on greenhouses effectively and efficiently. Check out their website today.

Ben Dick from Chillerman had some of the several chiller options on display.  The chillers they are selling are perfect size for smaller growers, but they also can accommodate for larger chiller units on request. They even have mobile chillers that are powered by solar panels!

Next year Fieldays will return to the normal time slot of June. It is a short turn around for the exhibitors. It is so fantastic this event is back so a big thankyou to the organisers and exhibitors for making this happen at this unusual time of the year.
