Lefroy Valley held their first Hydroponic Lettuce Field day in March

Lefroy Valley held their first Hydroponic Lettuce Field day in March
Showcasing commercial and new lines

The event could not have been possible with out the aid of Drury Fresh Ltd– Balbir Pabla as he offered his facility to nurture and grow the plants and provided Lefroy the opportunity to display both commercial and new lines.

The Lettuce was presented to visitors at the Drury Fresh Site and Lefroy’s main office at 94 John Street in Pukekohe. Above, Paula O’Hanlon is holding Oaks Red Epicure and Poplar and Janine Grul to the right is holding Mini Cos-Themes.

Poplar and Red Epicure have excellent vigour with great weight and strong against tip burn. Themes is an impressive cos (little gem) with a shiny green colour and smooth buttery leaves.

Right: Chris Butler from FSL Farms is being shown the display by Janine Grul from Lefroy Valley.

Included in Lefroy’s range were new lines LEM 1595 a multileaf Oak shaped leaf with medium vigour and outstanding colour providing divided leaves and a thin cut point for salad mixes.

Thimble is a slightly larger Mini  Cos compared to Themes with early filling and very good tip burn tolerance.

LEM 353 is a new Spiky divided leaf type with good crunch and texture and a narrow cut point for salad mixes.

Lefroy Valley intend on holding a similar event on an annual basis in early March. If you would like to be invited to future events please contact Paula on 021731009 or Janine on 0274438024. Or email paulao@lefroyvalley.co.nz

How to reduce heat from your structures during the warmer months. High temperatures can dramatically affect a strawberry plant’s ability to set fruit and maintain fruit size. The longer you can reduce the negative impact of heat stress, the longer you can sustain consistent production, quality, and shelf life.
