A Seamless Upgrade at Ball Australia

Powerplants carried out extensive upfront planning, off-site pre-build preparation, and detailed integration design before arriving on site.

Ball Australia is a leading horticulture business known for its advanced greenhouse operations and commitment to producing high-quality plants through efficient and reliable growing systems. With a strong focus on consistency, innovation, and long-term performance, the team continues to invest in infrastructure that supports reliable day-to-day operations and future growth.

Identifying the Challenge

As part of this ongoing investment, Ball identified a critical issue within one of the site’s main Priva control panels servicing multiple greenhouse compartments.

Over time, the existing Compartment 2 panel had deteriorated significantly due to corrosion, creating increasing operational and safety risks within a live production environment.

Because the system controlled several active greenhouse compartments, the upgrade needed to be completed carefully without impacting climate control, irrigation systems, or daily growing operations.

The Powerplants Solution

To minimise risk and downtime, Powerplants carried out extensive upfront planning, off-site pre-build preparation, and detailed integration design before arriving on site.

This preparation allowed the team to complete a full changeover of the existing panel with a new fully integrated control system connected seamlessly into the existing Priva network.

Project Highlights

  • Replacement of the existing Compartment 2 control panel
  • Full integration into the existing Priva network
  • Extensive off-site pre-build and testing
  • Coordinated installation with minimal disruption
  • Continued system control throughout the upgrade

The Outcome

The result was a smooth and efficient transition with minimal interruption to operations, while significantly improving long-term system reliability and reducing operational risk across the site.

The upgrade also removed a major safety concern and provided Ball with greater confidence in the ongoing performance of its greenhouse control systems.

“The panel changeover went seamlessly. The Powerplants team did a great job with minimal impact on our operations. The success of the project really came down to the thorough design and pre-planning.”

— Simon Gomme, Managing Director, Ball Australia
