The TomatoesNZ AGM is happening at Te Pae, Christchurch as part of the Vegetables Speaking Day on Wednesday 2nd August. The programme for this day is still being confirmed but includes an update on some TomatoesNZ projects as well as speakers for all vegetable growers:

  • The TNZ IPM and BCA Bioforce project
  • Updates on reducing energy demand from the covered crop industry in the Netherlands with Elly Nederhoff
  • A grower’s experience of Cyclone Gabrielle with Scott Lawson
  • AusVege celebrating grower success.

As part of the AGM 2 board members are up for rotation and TNZ board nominations will be open from 24th May. The nomination form is attached and should be returned to me once complete. You will need to have 2 people support your nomination. Simon Watson and Anthony Tringham have both agreed to stand again in the 2023 elections. If you have any questions about what is involved with being a board member, please get in touch with me.

The HortNZ conference is taking place on Thursday 3rd August (all day) and Friday morning (4th August) and a variety of local and international speakers has been lined up. Early bird registrations ends on 26th May including for the Vegetables Speaker Day and HortNZ conference. Horticulture Conference

We are back in 2023 with the annual Horticulture Conference. This year’s theme is Sharing Successes to Strengthen Our Future. Speaker sessions will provide inspiration and the opportunity for robust discussion about the challenges and opportunities facing the horticulture industry. The conference will also showcase and celebrate success, while being realistic and acknowledging the impact of adverse weather on some parts of our industry. By coming together to share perspectives, we can connect with and energise each other, which is imperative in the current challenging and uncertain environment.

The Horticulture Conference 2023: Sharing Successes to Strengthen Our Future will focus on the excellent work growers are already doing to address challenges, in a world that has changed and will continue to change.  The conference will be a unique opportunity to hear from politicians on both sides of the house, mental health experts, economists, and growers themselves as they offer insights and perspectives on the future of the industry.

This year’s gala dinner will combine with the Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) scheme conference, leaning further into the ‘sharing’ theme. The gala dinner will be held on Wednesday evening.
