Successfully upgrading their HPS lighting across 45 hectares at six cultivation sites

Vreugdenhil-Klugt optimizes year-round plant production with Philips GreenPower LED and GrowWise control system

Eindhoven, the Netherlands – Signify (Euronext: LIGHT) has supplied Vreugdenhil-Klugt, a renowned producer of young plants for ornamentals and vegetables, with successfully upgrading their HPS lighting across 45 hectares at six cultivation sites using Philips GreenPower LED toplighting force and Philips GrowWise control. This innovative solution enables precise crop steering at every crop stage, ensuring uniform, high-quality young plant production even during the dark winter months.

“We’ve been searching for a lighting system to grow strong plants in every season,” says John Potters, head of the vegetable division at Vreugdenhil-Klugt. “With Philips Horticulture LEDs, we can control all light spectra using the GrowWise system, ensuring uniform growth and efficiency while minimizing energy use. Winter production has always been a challenge due to low light levels, but now we can grow plants that are just as strong as in summer.”

The Philips GreenPower LED toplighting force, featuring advanced four-channel light spectra, allows growers to customize recipes for optimal plant development. The GrowWise control enables them to integrate with climate computers, allowing for precise control over light intensity and energy consumption. “The ability to fine-tune red, blue, green, and far-red light percentages gives us complete control over how plants grow at every growth stage, and it’s been transformative for our operations,” Potters explains.

Despite replacing the lighting while crops were actively growing, the transition was seamless thanks to Signify’s reliable support. “Their expertise and communication throughout the process were invaluable,” Potters adds.

With Philips horticultural lighting and ongoing support from Signify, Vreugdenhil-Klugt is now equipped to meet grower demands, secure consistent production, and deliver high-quality plants year-round.
