Phormium launches a new ultra-transparent energy screen: Diamond

Phormium launches a new ultra-transparent energy screen: Diamond
The leading Belgian climate screen manufacturer Phormium announces the introduction of a brand-new revolutionary energy screen:

Diamond. This is a transparent energy screen with a number of unique features:

  • High light transmission: up to more than 3% higher than the current market standard – a shading level of only 8% (Phormium method) or 23.6% (WUR, NEN 2675)
  • Integrated DryTec™ technology for efficient moisture regulation and optimal light transmission during condensation on the screen
  • 47% energy savings

Over the past two years, Diamond has been extensively tested in various research centres and by professional growers in different regions. Phormium expects Diamond to generate strong global interest, particularly among vegetable growers. The combination of high light transmission and significant energy savings will help growers take their profitability to the next level.

The secret behind Diamond lies in a new patented weaving pattern developed in-house by Phormium, combined with state-of-the-art yarns and the new DryTec technology.

For Phormium as a company, the introduction of Diamond also marks the beginning of a new era. At its Belgian production site in Lokeren, an investment plan is currently being rolled out, including the installation of new high-tech weaving looms that will enable Phormium to further scale up production in the coming months and years.

Ground-Source Heating: Lessons from a Leading UK Greenhouse Operation
An in-depth look at the ground-source heat pump system heating Stewarts Garden Centre in England and the opportunities this technology may offer commercial greenhouse growers in New Zealand. "Energy costs in the UK are currently extremely high compared with New Zealand. During discussions on site, electricity pricing was described as sitting around 22 pence per kWh, which converts to approximately NZ$0.50 per kWh. Considering those energy prices, the efficiency of the heating system was particularly impressive".

Energy, Equity and the Future of Greenhouse Growing
Finding Balance in a Changing Energy Landscape. Recent discussions within the industry have raised questions around energy security — particularly the role of gas — and whether targeted support for some growers may be needed to maintain production. It’s an important conversation, and one that deserves careful consideration.
