Intelligent Philips LED solution helps The Plant Company achieve precise growing from start to finish

“With the production module, we custom tailor our light recipes in a few minutes to ensure we produce consistent liners of the best possible quality”

Eindhoven, the Netherlands – Signify (Euronext: LIGHT), the world leader in lighting, has provided The Plant Company, one of the top North American growers of foliage plants, with Philips GreenPower LED toplighting compact, production modules, and the innovative Philips GrowWise control system. Since The Plant Company grows more than 200 varieties in various sizes, from tissue culture to finished, they needed a custom lighting solution tailored to every stage of plant development, which was achieved by the recent Philips installation.

The company’s year-round production requires precision steering to obtain ideal light levels and consistent temperatures. The Plant Company has made Philips LED lighting a component of its operation since the company’s start in 2021. The main greenhouse installation encompasses almost 200 Philips LED toplighting compact modules.  Steven Bryant, director of growing, points out how the LED lighting gives him the precision and control he needs. “The Philips toplighting compact along with Philips GrowWise control, is fully integrated into our environmental control system through our Hoogendoorn climate computer, with a seamless user interface.” Bryant added, “we dial everything in and control intensity and lighting periods.”

The Plant Company also uses color-controllable Philips LED production modules connected to GrowWise control in its new rooting chamber. “With the production module, we custom tailor our light recipes in a few minutes to ensure we produce consistent liners of the best possible quality,” Bryant states. “Increasing blue light for more compact growth, or red lights for more stretching.

Thanks to the control that the Philips LED luminaires give The Plant Company, in synergy with their other climate control components, they can take anything from tissue culture, cuttings, rooted liners, etc., and send through the rooting chamber before moving to finish in the greenhouse.

As an exclusive partner of the Leafjoy® brand, The Plant Company is conscious of their environmental impact as well as the sustainability of the operation, so they needed an energy-efficient solution that delivered the results they need.

“Through our partnership with Philips, we have custom tailored exactly what we need,” Bryant concludes, “to achieve; consistent production year-round.”
